9 June to 16 September 2018
From 9 June Museum Het Valkhof will be presenting the exhibition ’99 +1 ‘. No fewer than 99 works of art from just as many contemporary artists have been brought together here. This exhibition comes from the project 99 +1 – vrije kunst in Nijmegen that Nico Huijbregts, Inge Hondebrink and Pascale Companjen set up from their personal fascination with contemporary art. Nico Huijbregts selected 99 works of art and wrote a text for each piece, then he asked photographer Inge Hondebrink to portray the artists. Text and image have been brought together in an impressive book, designed by Pascale Companjen.
An estimated 350 visual artists work in Nijmegen and surroundings. Nico Huijbregts visited them. A number has already come a long way, has gained fame until sometimes far beyond the city and country borders. Others have just taken their first steps on the path of art. A single insider, colleague or casual observer knows their work. Within these two extremes all these artists work, some of them withdrawn in their studio, others in direct contact with the environment, people and society. The ‘+1’ in the title refers to the imperfection of the number 99: the choice is subjective, there is undoubtedly a work of art that can be added.
With ’99 +1 ‘, Museum Het Valkhof adds an up-to-date layer of contemporary art of its own soil. https://www.museumhetvalkhof.nl/tentoonstellingen/verwacht/2194-99-html
